New Canaan Man Charged With Not Reporting Car Crash

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- A New Canaan man told police he lost control of his vehicle after swerving to avoid a deer Sunday night but police still arrested him.

Police said around 8:30p.m. they were dispatched to a single motor vehicle crash on Valley Road near Colonial Road. Police said the vehicle was at rest on an embankment after it had struck a utility pole.

Jeffrey R. Fittipaldi, 39, of 32 Colonial Road, was contacted at his home. A subsequent investigation determined that Fittipaldi evaded responsibility by not reporting the crash, police said.

Fittipaldi was charged with evading responsibility and fail to drive right. He posted a $500 bond and was released to appear in court on March 15.
